In response to the dynamic landscape of intellectual property (IP) commercialisation, Innovation Partners in Leicestershire, supported by Research England, introduces VentureVersity. This initiative, chosen as one of the select few under the Connecting Capability Fund – UKRI, involves the collaboration of the University of Leicester, Loughborough University, De Montfort, and local innovation ecosystem Leicester Startups, graduates and local businesses.

VentureVersity will introduce and pilot novel approaches and solutions to accelerate university IP commercialisation through a new innovation accelerator. The conventional model of commercialisation follows a formulaic process; IP emerges, a Technology Transfer Office reviews, a pathway is identified, resources are allocated (or not) and over time progression towards an outcome is made i.e., Spin Out, Licensing Deal or service offer. The drawback to this methodology is that potentially great businesses can’t always progress due to time constraints, funding, and lack of the right connections/networks.

Successful academic applicants will receive support from friendly experienced entrepreneurs, advisors, and investors, plus a chance to win funding of up to £50K and a place on a unique commercialisation accelerator programme.
